Category C schools in Accra
Senior high school is a secondary school, where teenagers are educated before starting university or getting jobs.
Acquiring an excellent education is very crucial to the growth and development of individuals and their prospective environments.
In September 2017, the Ministry achieved a major milestone with the implementation of the Free Senior High School program. That year, there was an 11% increase in enrolment, breaking records from previous years.
In the 2017/18 academic year, a new record was set with the highest enrolment ever seen in the country: over 470,000 students enrolled in senior high school. Every Ghanaian child who is placed into a public Second Cycle Institution by the Computerised School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS) during the school placement process is eligible for a free SHS education.
This free SHS policy has now become an essential part of Ghana’s educational system. The major or core themes of the free SHS policy are access, equity, and equality which completely fulfill United Nation’s modified sustainable development goals. Some people have been employed and allocated the duty to ensure the policy’s efficiency.
Some countries in Africa have consulted Ghana eager to amalgamate the Ghanaian free SHS experience in their countries’ educational system. The leaders of these countries, after visiting Ghana, are confident that if they adopted the free educational policy, it will ensure an excellent learning experience for students in the respective countries.
